The American Breeds Coalition (ABC) is an organization representing the interests of those involved in the production and marketing of the American Breeds of beef cattle. American breeds are those breeds developed in the United States that include some amount of Brahman inheritance. The American Breeds Coalition was organized and chartered for the following stated purposes:
- As a coalition of breed associations with a primary focus on furthering the interests of producers of the American breeds of beef cattle.
- To increase cooperation and unity among the member organizations and facilitate enhanced communication among the organizations and their members as a singular body.
- To acknowledge the common cause of all members and to create a synergism among the members to deal with any problems related to our common cause now or in the future.
- To promote superior American Breeds and their crosses and their attributes through means such as but not limited to educational programs and events, research projects or demonstrations, sales and or other marketing efforts, educational and promotional printed materials, enhanced and positive press coverage and institutional advertising.
The American Red Brangus, Brahman, Beefmaster, Braford, Santa Gertrudis and Simbrah have been a part of the American Breeds Coalition since inception and have benefited from the joint efforts of this alliance. The goal of ABC is to spread the word about the role that eared influenced cattle play in the beef industry.
In an effort to better educate cattlemen on the importance of these breeds ABC has hosted seminars and short course programs in Texas , Mississippi , Louisiana, Florida, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The group has also spread their message through a display booth at the State Cattlemen's Conventions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Through these efforts many myths have been dispelled about these cattle and their carcasses.
It is through events like these where cattlemen can learn fact from fiction. Your membership dollars are wisely invested in these events. While each of these eared breeds still maintain an aggressive and competitive nature when it comes to selling their individual breeds, each is wise enough to know that there is strength in numbers and at times it is advantageous to cooperate with one another.
While many are talking about alliances and cooperation today, the members of the Coalition are getting the job done.
